2011 Inspirations

As we prepare to reopen our weaving studio I am preparing our direction by looking back at some favourite designs and thinking about how to expand and take these forward.  I am taking lots of inspiration from the seasonal lushness, the heavy, drammatic weather – which changes from thundering, glittering skies to soft, tranquil, misty rain.  The summer light and sunshine is sharp and leaves the valley looking defined and so beautiful with a range of shades of green that is infinite.

I want to translate this light and colour into our fabrics… the freshness, warmth and colour!

I live with very neutral colours but like to splash a vase of bright pink garden roses or put down a strong, striped bath mat, or make a bed up with a vibrant, wildly striped blanket.  The contrast of strong colour with neutral is important to me, and I love the outside bright jewel green lawn and trees to stand out against a subtle interior.

2011 will  be a journey which takes another look at our roots and focuses on fabrics which are long lasting, memorable and adaptable.

Are you Jane’s daughter, Coral’s grand-daughter? If so, I met your grandmother many years ago when I was then associated with Jack Larsen in Washington, DC. Time passed and I moved to Los Angeles, later founding my own company known as the Kipp Collection. Jane visited with me and we tried to find ways to resurrect the “Zwazi” business. She gave me a 3 meter length of Swazilace that I still cherish. I’m now in Boston with and own an antiques business but want to introduce craft and wonderful textiles for resale. I would love to hear from you.

Your monthly posts are quite amazing. I love your enthusiasm for the business and the personal touch you have given to the website. It truly transports one into the feel of what you do and the connection it has to its rural roots, as well as the strong bond you have maintained between the business and the family. Well done! I’m surprised you have not had more comments from site visitors – maybe most potential visitors are not aware of , or directed to your site unless they google the business name. Nevertheless, I have greatly enjoyed browsing through from down here at windy PE.
