Following the fire in 2007 Tommy and Murrae purchased the devastated property and decided to rebuild the home the following year, using the same foot print but not using thatch in the roof structure.
The resulting home is an echo of Boshimela as a few of the original walls and all the chimneys were still intact and required plastering and incorporating into the new lintels, which was successfully done. Some of the original brick work remains exposed, an acknoweldgement of the home’s foundation and past.
The home is still very new and sits rather stark as we work on the garden and willing the new trees to grow and soften the new building. Mohair is present all over the house in a more modern form…plain, neutral colours although some of the rugs are replicated in shade and texture. The sitting room has its original tufted carpet back, which was saved in the fire, as well as the billiard sofa which was recovered in a vintage piece of woollen upholstery provided from Jane’s archive.
Some of the rooms were opened up, so there is more of a flow, although it remains a farm house where relaxed, lived-in comfort is our main objective.
