Mohair, Stripped Cotton or Raffia Rugs
Mohair carpets are woven in either the flat pile, ribbed or tufted style. Each style has various colour and warp options, using one or more or keeping it in natural, undyed “chalk” mohair.
Mohair is hand spun and dyed and makes for a highly durable, stain resistant and beautiful looking rug. They are made to last. Tufted carpets become silky and soft with age and can last fifty years or more.
Mohair is easy to care for (brush with a soft brush), and it is a naturally stain resistant fabric and very soft underfoot.
All carpets are custom-made to order in consultation with decorator or owner. A polycotton warp is used for strength and we generally weave on an ecru colour warp, but can use black, off-white, dark brown or a striped warp.
Carpets are finished with a fringe, or hemmed.
Cotton is sourced in ready-dyed, preshrunk rolls which are then stripped by hand and are ready to weave. It is a cotton and polyester blend. We are able to source closest available colours to client’s requirements, but do not dye the cotton ourselves (unless requested to do so).
Cotton rugs are versatile being suitable for bedrooms, living areas and bathrooms. They are woven in a flat pile using striped, plain or ribbed/diamond style designs. They can also be woven with a thick tuft for special orders.
These carpets are absorbent, machine washable, hard working, and last well.
Raffia is stripped and knotted to create a smooth, evenly textured weft. Our raffia comes from a sustainable source in Madagascar.
It is not as hardwearing as cotton or mohair. Raffia can be dyed, and is sometimes woven with cotton in a variety of patterns and combinations.
