The Joys of an Intern

We were lucky enough to be approached by a student at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth, called Natalie Combley who asked us whether she could intern with us for a few weeks before her university course started again in February.  She is studying textile design and is in her final year.

Natalie took to weaving like the proverbial duck and after giving her brief instruction on the operation of a loom, away she went weaving up a small collection of samples that could be translated into larger items like shawls and scarves.  She different materials and colours - trying to find a simple way to combine textures into a standout pattern that can be used as a template over several colourways and sizes.  Sounds like a big ask, but Natalie came up with exciting designs and fresh combinations.  She was also a complete whizz with a sewing machine and tutored https://www.acheterviagrafr24.com/achat-viagra-en-ligne-sans-ordonnance/ some of our staff in how to making cushion covers and trying out different shapes and finishings.

The combination of a creative talent, an energetic spirit and an enthusiasm for all things new was a wonderful addition to our Studio.  You're welcome back any time, Natalie.

Since returning to P.E. Natalie has been sponsored by Mohair South Africa to design a male and female look for 2016 using mohair fibers.  We eagerly await to see the results.
