Open Weave Pieces

For several years we have been producing two colour ways of a fabric which is used in an unsual application: it is pressed between clear resin and used as screens, room dividers, light boxes and forms a range carried by a large company specialising in this product.

The weaving and preparation of the fabric is challenging since it needs to be as consistent as possible.  Once the woven piece is cut off the loom it is washed in a bucket of starch, laid out flat on a table, openings are made with a long needle in a random, yet regular way and then it is dried in the sun.  It is then ironed, so that the pattern and size is maintained.  It is carefully wrapped in tissue paper and then dispatched to the U.S.A.

We love the movement the final fabric shows, it looks as delicate as a spider’s web or like ripples frozen on a body of water.
