I don’t know about you, but my heart quickens when I see a pile of beautiful fabrics….just folded over and stacked together, they just promise pleasure of some sort and simply have to be unfolded, inspected and appreciated.
Being able to pick one in the middle of a stack, pull it out carefully and open it up, remember when it was woven, by whom and why, and think – “we really should do that again”. Inevitably when trying to bring some order to my piles of fabric, pieces are scattered around, draped, admired, photographed and then reluctantly returned to their stack.
I have a large showroom which contains a bulging physical “database” of fabrics which need to get moved around to make space for the newly archived members that keep arriving. We try to keep lengths of virtually all of our woven fabrics, samples of all of our carpets in one laden shelving area – this results in multiplying piles of fabric, which randomly stacked make perfect subjects. Enjoy the beautiful photos by Renske Verwey.
