Rooms on View was held recently in Sandton, Johannesburg – there was plenty of anticipation as the decor show had not taken place in 2009. The local decor market has struggled due to the recession and these sorts of shows, although a valuable platform, are expensive for small firms to attend. A few stands did catch my eye and one could see the amount of preparation and sheer hard work that was involved – Otto De Jager’s beautiful execution of an ethereal and other worldly scene stole the show.
Life sized wire horses, a floor of feathers, white lights, chairs, simple white candelabra, eggs and dramatic swans created an original and complex story. Our natural mohair throw tumbled off the middle of the long table – as if a frozen waterfall - it was wonderful.
Josef Greeff’s South Africa House was also full of originality and good design and was enhanced by Amanda Du Plessis’s printed and appliqued fabrics (Evolution). We hope to be working with both of these designers in the near future as we collaborate on separate projects.
