During the last few weeks we have received three different “vintage” curtains which have come back to Piggs Peak to be repaired and/or replicated.
These old patterns are beautiful and still so modern, they do not date. One owner wants us to weave a completely new set, exactly as before and the other owner needs us to darn some small holes that have appeared over the decades. The curtains belonged to her grandmother and were well made, lined and have lasted several decades. She cannot bear to part with them and I can see why.
The striking black, rust and grey striped curtain has fringed lower edges – such a twist – and so practical – the weave is from 1985, 25 years ago…but looks so good. These curtains normally live in London and we will weave a new set, exactly as these. So looking forward to seeing the result.
In contrast the gentle yellows and greens that blend into each other look wonderful through the light and change colour as the shadows of the day change. It is warm, gentle and invigorating and full of sunshine.
The textured piece is something I would really like to try again, knobbly, thick pieces woven in a single colour and a real contrast to the fine and medium textures that show through. Suitable for many colours.
